Project: Creating Silhouettes
Creating silhouettes has been around longer than photography has been. Creating an image by making an object appear as a dark solid object on a light background may sound simple but is it, really? Traditional silhouettes were created by cutting dark paper into the profile of the person sitting for the silhouette and then mounting it on a white or light-colored paper and framing it. With photography we can create silhouettes simply by metering for the background and letting our main subject go black. Sunrise and sunset are probably the easiest times to create a silhouette but also think about brightly lit backgrounds that can occur at any time of day.
As always, once you have made some images for this project feel free to share your results in our Facebook Group.
