Project #6 Street Scene in available, mixed light

Project: Photograph a street scene in available, mixed light.

Photographing a street scene in available, mixed light can be quite a challenge. After the sun has set and the lights come up, street scenes have a very different look. The same is true for street scenes just before dawn. Making images just after the golden hour but before twilight has completely turned into night or just before dawn when the sun hasn’t risen above the horizon is what this project is about. Play with your exposure settings and white balance to see the creative ways you can handle this project. Scout a location and look for a street scene that is interesting in itself and then come back or wait until just after sunset or just before dawn to start making images. See how the changing light creates new interest in areas of the scene by revealing areas you didn’t see before. The changing light can also hide or reveal unwanted distractions so look for those as well.

As always, once you have made some images for this project feel free to share your results in our Facebook Group.
